An alleged street racer in Colorado Springs is facing a vehicular assault charge after a rollover crash seriously injured a passenger over the night.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, officers responded to a crash along Voyager Parkway, north of Northgate Boulevard, just before midnight Monday. They found evidence that suggests a vehicle had been traveling at a “high rate of speed” during a street race before crashing.

A passenger involved in the crash was transported to the hospital for their injuries, and the driver, Arturo Delgado, was arrested.

He is being held at the El Paso County jail, records show.

This is the third recent arrest by Colorado Springs police in connection to a street race, a phenomenon that some car clubs and enthusiasts say leaves a “black mark” on the broader community because of its dangers.

On May 21, two men turned themselves in to police nearly two months after a woman was killed during a race along Briargate Boulevard. Another 26 people were summoned for trespassing and “taking over” a private parking lot for street racing in late April.
