A 15-year-old girl who was shot around 3 a.m. March 3 in the Astrozon Plaza parking lot died on March 7, Colorado Springs police said in a news release on Monday.

Alexious Barben-Wright, 32, and Alyssa Jaramillo, 21, were arrested and charged in connection with the homicide off South Academy Boulevard.

Court documents show Barben-Wright is accused of escalating a confrontation between several teenagers in a sedan by allegedly climbing into it, knocking one unconscious and discharging the gun, according to previous Gazette reporting. Jaramillo, who is Barben-Wright’s sister-in-law, allegedly handed her the gun during the altercation before the shooting occurred.

Jaramillo denied any involvement in the altercation to investigators in an interview and denied the “existence” of a gun that police allegedly saw tucked next to her in their vehicle when she was initially contacted, according to previous reporting.

Barben-Wright allegedly told police Jaramillo fired one shot to “scare” the teenagers and said she initially denied it because she didn’t want to get her sister-in-law in trouble.

Prior to the death of the 15-year-old, Jaramillo and Barben-Wright were both facing four counts of first-degree attempted murder. Jaramillo was also facing four counts of menacing.

Both of them will appear in the same El Paso County courtroom Wednesday morning for a status conference.

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause of death. In accordance with Riley’s Law, no further information regarding the victim will be released. The law took effect in 2024 and is intended to protect the identities of underage crime victims and witnesses in reports released to the public.
