Two Colorado Springs women are facing four attempted first-degree murder charges after allegedly shooting at a vehicle occupied by four teenagers, critically injuring one, around 3 a.m. Sunday in the Astrozon Plaza parking lot.

Alexious Barben-Wright, 32, is accused of getting into a sedan occupied by the teenagers and knocking one unconscious before discharging a gun, court documents obtained by The Gazette show.

Eyewitnesses allegedly recounted to police that Barben-Wright was handed a gun by her sister-in-law, Alyssa Jaramillo, 21, during the altercation at the sedan before the shooting occurred.

The wounded teenager was taken to a hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries, police said on the day of the incident. The arrest affidavit signed on Sunday indicates the victim did not make a statement before it was filed because she is “currently unable to breathe on her own.”

A spokesperson with Colorado Springs police was unable to provide a further update on the victim’s condition to The Gazette on Tuesday.

Testimonies about the incident by witnesses, victims and the two sisters-in-law to the police contradicted each other on numerous details, including whether the gun was fired a second time by Jaramillo, court documents show.

Two victims in the sedan also failed to identify Barben-Wright as the shooter in a photo lineup conducted by police. It is unclear if Jaramillo has undergone a similar identification process.

Another witness claimed to have seen Jaramillo waving around a gun by the sedan, giving it to her sister-in-law to fire it, before repossessing it and shooting at the sedan as it left.

Police denied The Gazette’s request for a mugshot of the suspects, citing “investigative follow-up.”

Barben-Wright initially provided investigators with a statement denying hearing gunshots, having a gun and knowing if someone else had a gun, according to court documents. She recalled leaving a business nearby after it closed down because people weren’t “acting right” when she saw the vehicle, a sedan with at least four women in it, try to run over another woman.

She claimed the driver got out of her vehicle to pick up some rocks and then began throwing them at the woman, according to court documents. This upset Barben-Wright because the rocks almost hit her car.

Barben-Wright and Jaramillo confronted the girls, which she says prompted a verbal altercation.

Later, Barben-Wright allegedly told police Jaramillo fired one shot to “scare” the girls and said she initially denied it because she didn’t want to get her sister-in-law in trouble, court documents show.

Jaramillo denied any involvement in the altercation to investigators in an interview and denied the “existence” of a gun that police allegedly saw tucked next to her in their vehicle when she was initially contacted.

In recounting the incident, Jaramillo claimed she saw a sedan that was “full of girls,” saying “hurtful” things and driving erratically while chasing a female, before it left, according to court documents.

A third passenger in the car that the sisters-in-law arrived in was allegedly not involved in the shooting, according to court documents. In a statement provided to police, she recalled hearing two gunshots after helping a female who was chased and “maced” by someone in a sedan.

Two other victims inside the sedan spoke with police and provided another recounting of events, court documents state.

One of them told investigators that they were driving in circles around the parking lot as they waited for someone to exit a club when the sisters-in-law approached them while yelling, before the gun was fired twice by Barben-Wright.

The other victim claimed she heard one gunshot before Barben-Wright climbed into the sedan, hit her in the head and knocked her unconscious for about 10 seconds.

The driver of the sedan, who was the only adult in the vehicle, did not have a witness statement in the arrest affidavit.

Jaramillo and Barben-Wright will appear in an El Paso County courtroom on four counts of first-degree attempted murder on March 10 and 11, respectively. Jaramillo is also facing four counts of menacing.

Only Barben-Wright has been previously charged with a crime in Colorado, according to court records. She pleaded guilty to trespassing in 2024 and is set to appear in court later in March on one count of criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, from 2025.
