Colorado Springs gets new rooftop lounge with stunning views | Table Talk

Colorado Springs has a new rooftop bar to enjoy the spectacular views of the Front Range: Ryze Skyline Lounge at the Hilton Garden Inn, 125 N. Cascade Ave. (Cascade Avenue and Bijou Street).

Upon entering the cozy, dimly lighted space there’s a beautifully stocked bar on the left and a couple of steps just past the bar to reach the seated area, which is divided into indoor and outdoor areas.

Across the back wall of the room, you can see outside through the westward-facing windows, begging you to come have a closer look over the city below and Pikes Peak beyond. The outdoor area, festooned with several round blazing firepits circled with cushy sofas and armchairs, can be separated with sliding glass doors from an indoor area. The firepits flickering flames warm the outside as well as the inside.

The food menu, created by Erik Kirby, is short with 10 savory dishes and three sweet options. At our tasting we enjoyed compressed melon salad ($14) of sweet watermelon with tangy grapefruit vinaigrette; street corn riblets ($13), quarter wedges of charred corn on the cob with spicy ancho mayo and zingy tajin; Colorado bison sliders ($18), medium rare patty topped with caramelized shallots and smoked cheddar on a gluten-free brioche bun; and lamb meatballs ($17), minty herbed balls in preserved lemon yogurt and tomato sauce. All four were beautifully plated and adequate servings to make a satisfying light meal. There are alcoholic and nonalcoholic cocktails, wine and beer. Reservations recommended; open 4-10 p.m., Tuesdays through Sundays. Details: 719-283-9779, facebook.com/RYZESkylineLoungeColoradoSprings.

More pizza, please
Round Table Pizza, the popular California-based pizza parlor with a Knights of the Round Table theme, opened at 7340 N. Academy Blvd. in early September. It didn’t take long for word to spread about the celebrated eatery coming to town with customers lining up for slices of pie on opening week. The famed eatery has stood the test of time since 1959. Loyal customers rave about the quality and flavors of the hand-crafted pizzas.

We checked what all the fuss was about with the two top sellers: King Arthur’s Supreme with pepperoni, Italian sausage, salami, linguica, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, black olives with red sauce, and Montague’s All Meat Marvel with Italian sausage, pepperoni, salami, linguica with red sauce. We went with the 14-large pizza on the cheese stuffed crust ($28.99 plus $5 each for the cheese crust).

The fat rolled cheese crust oozed with creamy melted mozzarella cheese. That crust alone would be reason enough for a rerun. But the ingredients on the pies were excellently flavored too. As newcomers to the Round Table, we quickly got why the shop has the logo “Pizza Royality,” as the friendly service and top-notch eats are special. The menu also has salads, wings, garlic bread, sandwiches, pasta and desserts. Beer and wine service is coming soon. Check out the all-you-can-eat pizza, salad and drink lunch buffet for in-store dining ($14.99) 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Hours are 10 a.m.-10 p.m. daily, facebook.com/RoundTablePizzaColoradoSpringsCO.
