KBR, which employs 650 people in Colorado Springs, will work on improving the Space Force’s situational awareness in space following a $58 million contract award.
The contract was one of three awarded to the Houston, Texas-based defense company on Thursday by the Air Force Research Laboratory.
The task order, capped at $58 million, directs KBR to “enhance space mission assurance” and situational awareness with advanced monitoring systems, a release said.
“KBR is empowering tomorrow’s mission success by leveraging our capabilities in cybersecurity, trusted microelectronics, electronic warfare, digital forensics and novel sensing methodologies,” said Mark Kavanaugh, KBR’s president of defense, intel and space in the news release. “Each capability is strategically streamlined to enhance situational awareness, strengthen decision-making and deliver operational superiority across the U.S. Air Force, Space Force and joint operations.”
KBR is expected to use advanced monitoring techniques and safeguard space and ground assets, a different company representative said. In addition, KBR is expected to provide cybersecurity expertise, software and systems engineering, acquisition planning and strategic communication capabilities.
In total, the three contracts awarded to KBR are worth $175 million. Two weeks ago, the company was awarded a contract worth up to $98.7 million.
