Dion’s joining Springs pizza market
Dion’s Pizza, a New Mexico-based chain, will break ground on its first Colorado store 10 a.m. Wednesday at 6385 Source Center Point (near North Powers and Dublin).
The owners, Jon Patten and Bill Scott, had intended to open a Greek restaurant in 1978. But the place they bought in Albuquerque had been a pizza place.
Why the name Dion’s?
Originally the Greek place was going to be called “Dionysus,” after the Greek god of the grape harvest and wine. However, the cost of making a sign for the eatery was costing too much. So they shortened the name to Dion’s instead.
The new store is due to open in November. Visit www.dions.com for more information.
