Temperatures in Colorado Springs will rise to the 90s on Thursday for one of the hottest days of July so far.

“After warming into the upper 80s the past two days, today’s forecast high of 93 degrees in Colorado Springs will be our hottest day of the month so far,” meteorologist Alan Rose with Gazette news partner KOAA said.

“The heat will come with a healthy amount of sunshine early before skies turn partly to mostly cloudy this afternoon.”

There’s a 10% chance of showers and thunderstorms Thursday afternoon. Expect increasing clouds throughout the day and a high of 93 degrees.

According to Rose, a heatwave moving into the area will make itself known beginning Friday.

“A Heat Advisory will go into effect in El Paso County at 10 a.m. lasting until 9 p.m. Friday’s high is expected to hit 98 degrees, which would tie the existing record of 98 that last occurred in 1971,” Rose said.

Rose said the worst of the heat will continue through the weekend, with a Heat Advisory remaining in effect from Friday to Sunday.
