Family and friends welcomed home 4th Infantry Division soldiers from Europe on Wednesday at Fort Carson. The 120 soldiers who returned Wednesday were the last of hundreds to return from Poland, Lithuania and Estonia where they were working with NATO troops to prepare to face an invasion from Russia if necessary.

First Sargeant Harold Nelson, 107, of Aurora is awarded the Silver Star by Maj. Gen. Charles D. Costanza. Nelson is believed to be Colorado’s oldest World War II veteran and was given the award for “gallantry in action.”
