Roads are reopen near a grassfire on the southside

A grass fire Monday morning near the intersection of Union Boulevard and Hancock Expressway on the south side of Colorado Springs temporarily closed southbound Union, according to fire officials.

The fire department said shortly before 9 a.m. that the southbound lanes were shut down. Click or tap here for traffic updates on The Gazette’s interactive map.

The fire was about 100 feet by 100 feet and is now extinguished, said Ashley Franco, a spokeswoman for the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

Crews in the Colorado Springs area are also working grass fires at the Air Force Academy and Fort Carson, both which flared up Sunday.
