Colorado Springs firefighters extinguish blaze at downtown burger spot

A popular downtown burger spot is closed Saturday following an early morning fire.

Around 6 a.m Saturday, firefighters reported finding smoke at a downtown commercial building housing multiple businesses.

A fire was located and extinguished inside a single business, the Bingo Burger restaurant, at 132 N.Tejon, according to the fire department.

In a Facebook post Saturday morning, the downtown eatery, one of two locations in Colorado, said it would be closed for the day.

“NO! We’re really sorry … due to unforeseen circumstances Bingo Colorado Springs will be closed today! We’ll be back just as soon as possible, so please come and see us then! Thanks for your patience!”

The fire activity shut down southbound lanes of Tejon Street between Bijou and Kiowa streets. Bijou was also closed between Cascade and Nevada avenues, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Communications Center.

The next-door Solar Roast Coffee shop, at the corner of Tejon and Bijou streets was also roped off and closed Saturday.

“Fire damage has forced us to close for a few but hopefully we’ll be up and running as soon as we can!” stated the coffee shop’s social media.

Roads were reopened around 8:30 a.m.

The fire department said no injuries were reported; the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
