The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has charged a former La Plata County jail commander with 117 counts of invasion of privacy after he allegedly viewed and replayed 117 female inmates’ strip-search videos.

Edward Aber, 62, became commander of La Plata County jail in Durango in 2018 and was granted access to evidence.com in 2019, a website that helps law enforcement store video footage obtained through body cameras and other sources.

Aber was placed on administrative leave in July 2024 after several allegations of unlawful sexual contact with female inmates and sexual harassment of “numerous” female co-workers surfaced, according to the bureau.

Investigators believe that Aber accessed, viewed and replayed 117 female inmates’ strip-search footage repeatedly from 2019 to 2024 using evidence.com. For this accusation, Aber faces 117 misdemeanor charges of invasion of privacy, and one charge of first-degree official misconduct, also a misdemeanor.

Aber’s next court appearance is Aug. 12 in La Plata County.
