Klee blog: Broncos postcard: Kansas City

GOP 2016 Debate

A snapshot of local happenings when the Broncos are on the road….

Broncos Postcard: Kansas City

-It’s “Red Thursday” here in Kansas City. A $5 donation to the Ronald McDonald House scores a Chiefs Kingdom flag. City employees are encouraged to wear red. Yes, there’s still a little Dillon (Texas) to Kansas City, minus the pep rally.

-Actually, there was a pep rally. Chiefs cheerleaders and the Kansas City Symphony Orchestra joinced forces this morning at City Hall.

-K.C. Star columnist Sam Mellinger writes that Peyton Manning looks beatable, though Kansas City has felt that way before.

-Despite the Royals’ rise, this remains a Chiefs town. The evening news opened with four Chiefs stories before showing the Royals score, including a conversation with the mother of Broncos pass-rusher and Kansas City-area native Shane Ray.

“Even Shane is an avid Chiefs fan,” Sebrina Johnson said on KCTV-5. “But that has to change tomorrow.”

-The violence in Missouri is striking. Kansas City crime isn’t St. Louis crime, but it’s pretty terrible crime, and it’s tough to go a day without hearing of another shooting.

-The Chiefs will unveil a new touchdown song tonight at Arrowhead Stadium: “Hey, Kansas City!” by David Moore and A Crooked Mile. It’s a little “Go Cubs Go”, splashed with some “San Diego Superchargers,” and very Kansas City.

-Kickoff forecast: Muggy and windy, temperatures in the low 80s.
