Petrovic finds ways to kill time before final round
It’s understandable Tim Petrovic was a bit confused – he’s not used to teeing off so late in the day with the leaders.
“The hardest part of the day was trying to kill time before 2:30 tee off,” the longtime journeyman said after his second runner-up finish in a senior major in the past two months.
“We took the paddle boats out. We had breakfast. I went for a run. We went shopping. … I tried to take a little cat nap to recharge.”
Maybe it was the wait that led to a few squandered early chances. He reached 2-over on his round before the first of his three birdies briefly thrust him into the lead.
Petrovic finished his day with a birdie on No. 18 that left him at 2-over for the tournament, tied with Miguel Angel Jimenez and Jerry Kelly.
Experience complicates future plans for Kelly
Jerry Kelly’s Colorado travel plans – and future real estate transactions – just grew far more complicated.
Over the past year, his focus on the state involved visiting his son, Cooper, during his freshman year at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
Now Jerry anticipates an itch to travel south on I-25 after spending a week at The Broadmoor.
“This is a place I would come and have fun playing,” said Kelly, who said he rarely enjoys the game outside of competition unless it’s with Cooper or his wife, Carol.
“We’re so close to buying a place out here … I mean, it’s a tough choice out here. You guys got so many awesome spots.”
Etc.
Duffy Waldorf posted the lowest final-round score at 2-under par 68 as he finished 31st. … Bernhard Langer continued his run of 40 top-25 finishes in senior majors as he tied for 16th at 6-over. … Davis Love III led the field in driving average at 321.09.
