Jake Fox, with plenty of help from his Iowa Cubs teammates, continued to wreak havoc on Pacific Coast League pitchers Thursday.

Fox had four hits, including a home run and double, as Iowa pounded Colorado Springs 17-4 at Security Service Field. Fox leads the PCL in all Triple Crown categories: Average (.420), homers (15) and RBIs (44).

“Jake’s just unconscious,” said Brad Snyder, who had two homers and four RBIs. “It’s been a lot of fun this series.”

Jason Dubois, hitting behind Fox and Snyder, added two more round-trippers for his fifth multi-homer game against the Sky Sox.

The Cubs battered four Sky Sox pitchers – but not infielder Mike McCoy, who pitched a perfect ninth inning – for 21 hits, giving them 66 in three games of the series.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Snyder said. “(The Sky Sox) bullpen is overextended, but I’ve never seen two position guys pitch in one series.”

Kenny Perez took the mound for the Sky Sox in Wednesday’s 18-4 loss. The Sky Sox rallied from a 12-5 deficit to win 16-15 in 10 innings in Tuesday’s series opener.

Carlos Gonzalez slugged a two-run homer for the Sky Sox in the first inning, while Eddie Bellorin had three singles, Matt Miller a pair of hits and Mark Bellhorn came off the bench to stroke two doubles.

Cubs pitcher Jeff Samardzjia, the former Notre Dame All-American receiver, gave up two runs in four innings. Samardzjia opened the season in Chicago’s bullpen, but returned to the minors to again become a starter.

“Sometimes he overthrows and leaves the ball over the plate,” Snyder said of Samardzjia. “When his slider is down, he’s tough.”

Fox, who was with Chicago for 18 days in 2007, is determined to return, and PCL pitchers can’t wait. The 6-foot, 210-pounder is a threat to win the Triple Crown – if he’s still around.

“He’s very aggressive and he’s not missing mistake pitches,” said Sky Sox manager Tom Runnells. “Stick him in the middle of (Chicago’s) lineup and he’d be good.”
