H1N1 flu clinic schedule announced
The H1N1 vaccine will be available later this month through community clinics and many local health care providers for people most at-risk, the El Paso County Department of Health and Environment announced Thursday.
The following high-risk groups are being offered the first publicly available doses of the vaccine:
-Pregnant women
-People living with or caring for infants younger than 6 months.
-Health care and emergency workers with direct patient contact.
-People 6 months to 24 years old.
-People 25 through 64 with chronic medical conditions or weakened immune systems.
Health officials say people in these groups should first check with their health care providers for a vaccination. If a person’s doctor’s office cannot provide one, the following health department clinics are scheduled:
El Paso County Department of Health and Environment, 301 S. Union Blvd.
Monday, Oct. 26: 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 27: 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 28: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 29: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Ellicott Elementary School, 399 S. Ellicott Highway, Calhan 80808
Friday, Nov. 6, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Coronado High School, 1590 W. Fillmore St., Colorado Springs, Colorado 80904
Wednesday, Nov. 11, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
New Life Church, 11025 Voyager Parkway, Colorado Springs, CO 80921
Friday, Nov. 13, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Harrison High School, 2755 Janitell Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80906
Tuesday, Nov. 17, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Hangar, 6436 S. Highway 85/87 Suite R, Fountain CO, 80817
Thursday, Nov. 19, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Vaccinations at the clinics will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. Although health officials will not be verifying records, they ask that only people in the priority groups come at this time.
As more shipments come in, non-priority people such as those 65 and older will be offered vaccine, probably by November.
The health department expects to have plenty of vaccine, but it warns that vaccine supplies are unpredictable based on demand.
The majority of health department workers will be devoted to vaccination clinics the week of Oct. 26, so health officials suggest people in need of other health department services to plan for them the week before or after.
