This week’s high school sports highlights

THIS WEEK’S HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS:

GIRLS’ TENNISWhen Pine Creek hosts Palmer at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, the spotlight will be on the No. 1 singles clash between Palmer sophomore Adrianna Wojakowska, the 2008 Class 5A No. 2 singles state champion, and Eagles senior Ryann Warner (2-0), who won the Class 4A No. 2 singles state title in 2006.

“She’s currently undefeated this season,” Eagles coach Dave Lehman said. “She’s playing real well. I expect a great match between her and Adrianna.”

“I don’t think Adrianna has much experience against her, if any,” Palmer coach Holly Strack said. “It will be a tough match.”

Wojakowska is 4-1, losing to Cheyenne Mountain standout Kristina Barber.

“As the season goes on, she is picking up her game,” Strack said.

Other matches to watch are Pine Creek’s Julia Hubbard (2-0) vs. Palmer’s Kelly Anderson (3-1) at No. 2 singles and Palmer’s Emily Lawrence, a Coronado transfer making her debut at No. 3.

“Pine Creek, they’re just tough,” Strack said. “Singles are definitely where our strengths lie.”

GIRLS’ SOCCERThe Classical Academy visits Manitou Springs at 6 p.m. Fridayand brings a high-powered offense. The Titans have outscored opponents 34-1.

“They have two or three players who are very potent,” Mustangs coach Matt Barton said. “We’re getting scoring from all different places.”

Titans junior Shea Haycock has tallied four goals twice this season and sophomore Amara Nagle scored four in a row in Saturday’s 9-0 romp over Pikes Peak Christian.

“They’re just a solid overall team,” Titans coach Mike Fox said of Manitou Springs.

Air Academy hosts 5A Metro rival Pine Creek at 6 p.m. today in a reschedule game.
