Driver crashes into Colorado Springs police car on I-25
A motorist crashed into an unoccupied Colorado Springs police cruiser on Interstate 25 early Sunday, according to an online blotter entry.
The collision took place just after 5 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the interstate, just north of the South Nevada Avenue exit, officials said. While investigating a prior two-car collision, officers had positioned a cruiser in the middle and right lanes on the southbound side, leaving the left lane open to traffic. The squad car’s emergency lights were activated, police said.
A Hyundai Electra, driving south in the middle lane of the freeway, failed to move into the open left lane in time, clipping the cruiser’s front left corner and damaging both vehicles.
No injuries were reported.
The driver of the Hyundai, whose name was not released, was cited with several traffic charges, police said. Neither speed nor impairment were thought to be factors in the crash.
