Sara Christensen leads dominant Thomas MacLaren run, Highlanders finish tied-for second in 2A girls

LAKEWOOD – Sara Christensen became the first double champion in Thomas MacLaren history.

Christensen won consecutive 2A girls’ 100 hurdle titles and earned this year’s crown at 14.83 seconds. She then won the 300 hurdles championship at 44.96. Rather than marvel at her success from Saturday’s individual events, Christensen shared her gratitude for those who helped her reach this level.

“It’s taken a lot of people to get me here and, yeah, I’m the one running the race,” Christensen said, “but I have such a good support system behind me. This is like a win for all of us.”

That support system pushed Christensen to her first 300 hurdles title one year after finishing second in the race at the Colorado High School State Track Championships. In the 100, Christensen has finished second or better in every event since April 26, 2025, which includes 11 races.

The Highlanders’ community earned a share of second place in 2A girls and finished tied-for second at 46 points, the team’s highest placement in school history.

The Highlanders 4×100 quartet captured the championship with a time of 50.18. Aneace Forman, Azailya Forman and Hannah Templin led the way along with Christensen, who anchored the relay, to the title after a tight final exchange.

“We were a little nervous coming in because the top four were so close,” Templin said. “When Sara got the baton, I was yelling at her to go get it. I was so proud and I wanted to cry because this is my last year running with Sara.

“We were both on the (sprint) medley (relay) team that got second and we wanted this. Sara told me, ‘If you give me the baton before them, then I can win.’ I gave it to her second and Calhan was a little ahead of us and she pushed through. … I’m so grateful that we got to run this race and place so well. It’s so unreal.”

The Highlanders placed fourth in the 4×400 relay and earned six points to put Thomas MacLaren in second place in team standings. They finished tied with Ridgway and Rangely, which also had 46 points.
