Wienerschnitzel opening inside Colorado Springs Walmart Supercenter this weekend
Wienerschnitzel is opening its third Colorado Springs area location inside a local Walmart Supercenter this weekend.
The self-billed world’s largest hot dog chain, founded in Southern California 65 years ago, is expected to open the location Saturday inside the Walmart Supercenter at 3201 E. Platte Ave.
It will feature Wienerschnitzel’s full menu, according to a news release announcing its opening.
Franchisee Colorado Hotdogs 3 LLC opened the Springs’ first Wienerschnitzel location in 2021 at 4095 Austin Bluffs Parkway and the area’s second, at 8045 Fountain Mesa Road in Fountain, south of Colorado Springs, in 2024.
This will be Wienerschnitzel’s fourth restaurant inside a Walmart Supercenter, the release said.
The Walmart locations are a key factor of the company’s non-traditional growth strategy, officials said in the release.
“As consumer dining habits continue to shift toward convenience, speed and accessibility, Wienerschnitzel’s Walmart locations are designed to meet guests where they are, bringing its iconic menu into everyday shopping destinations,” the release said.
Last spring, Wienerschnitzel announced it would add six restaurant locations to select Walmart stores, including in Colorado Springs. Since November, the brand has opened locations in Walmart Supercenters in Tempe, Ariz.; Alamogordo, N.M.; and Puyallup, Wash. Additional restaurants are planned in Walmarts in Bakersfield, Calif., and Reno, Nev.
Wienerschnitzel is also pursuing opportunities to operate in high-traffic areas like airports, travel plazas, food courts and military bases, according to the release.
Wienerschnitzel currently operates 340 franchised locations across 13 states. More than 50 additional units are in development nationwide.
