BOYS’ BASKETBALLLiberty 64, Green River (Wyo). 46At Steamboat Springs: Wes McKenzie led the Lancers with 21 points in their victory at the Steamboat Springs tournament while teammate T.J. Holt added 13.  Liberty will face Rock Canyon in the semifinals on Friday.Palmer 49, Eaglecrest 47At Palmer: With 17 seconds remaining, Brandon Deese hit a 3-pointer to tie the game for the Terrors. After getting the ball back after Eaglecrest stepped out-of-bounds, Andre Brown scored two of his 14 points on a layup with one second remaining to give Palmer (3-2) the victory.“It was a wild ending,” said coach Jim Grantz. “It wasn’t pretty but it was pretty gutsy. I’m proud of our guys and how they played.” 

Scottsbluff 63, Colorado Springs Christian School 62At Northeastern Junior College High School Tournament: Nate Engesser had 31 points, including six 3-pointers for the Lions in their narrow defeat.

Pikes Peak Christian 62, Hilltop Baptist 33At Hilltop Baptist: Segun Lipede had 20 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals for the Eagles in their win while teammate Branson Hartshorn added 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.Pueblo East 57, Widefield 56At Pueblo East: Matt Sweitzer had 21 points for the Gladiators in the losing effort.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALLCanon City 35, Lewis-Palmer 26At Widefield: Jenn Rodriguez had eight points for the Rangers as they fell to the Tigers at the Widefield Holiday Hoops Tournament.Pueblo West 48, Florence 26At Widefield: Britney Warren scored 14 points for the Huskies in their loss at the Widefield Holiday Hoops Tournament.Colorado Springs School 53, Cripple Creek 37At Colorado Springs School: Karley Lindroth-Yates had 20 points, eight rebounds and five steals to lead the tournament host Kodiaks. Andie Anderson added nine points, seven rebounds and two steals in the victory while Marissa Quintero also had nine points and added five rebounds and a steal. Monica Finger had eight points and three assists in the win.

Palmer 63, Eaglecrest 42At Palmer: Taylor Torres had 16 points for the Terrors in their win, including two 3-pointers. Mary Miller added 12 points and two steals in the victory while Kim Beard had 11 points, two steals and five rebounds.

Mesa Ridge 56, Green Mountain 45

At Denver: After lagging in the first half of the Lakewood Tournament, the Grizzlies (4-0) came alive in the third, outscoring Green Mountain 17-6. Kaitlyn Mileto had 19 points in the win while Leanndra Gilbert had 13 points and 12 rebounds and Sarah Curby added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

“There’s going to be games where offense isn’t shooting well… you just have to stay composed and rely on defense and rebounding,” said Mesa Ridge coach Eric Hulen.

Colorado Springs Christian School 43, Pueblo Central  33At CSCS: Brianne VanderGriend had 21 points for the Lions (4-0).Evergreen 56, Liberty 46At Evergreen: Danielle Alvernaz had 11 points, three rebounds and a steal for the Lancers (1-2) in their loss.

Doherty 54, Fountain-Fort Carson 50At Doherty: Angela Vigil had a team-high 17 points, four rebounds and three assists for the Spartans in their win.Pueblo East 86, Coronado 34At Coronado: Katie Hofer scored nine points for the Cougars in their loss.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Vista Ridge 99, Fountain-Fort Carson 80At Fountain-Fort Carson: Ashley Butler took first in the 50-yard free, 100-yard backstroke and swam a leg in the winning 200-medley and 200-yard free relays for the victors. Courtney Noonan joined Butler in the winning relays while also taking first in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.

Doherty 133, Pine Creek 52At Doherty: Senior Joy Massey qualified for her first state tournament in the 100 breaststroke, where she recorded a time of 1:13.82. Two other Spartans qualified for state in individual events in Thursday’s win, including Sarah James (200 IM, 100 backstroke) and Caitlin Johnson (50 free, 100 free).

The 200 free relay team of James, Johnson, Maggie Morris and Erika Whitney also qualified for state with a time of 1:46.39 while the 400 free relay team of James, Morris, Johnson and Emmy Gradisar qualified for state with a time of 3:53.38. Doherty is now 2-0.
