AROUND TOWN: Big Brothers Big Sisters honors the Bigs
The 420 “Littles” mentored by “Bigs” were on the minds of volunteers and supporters as they honored top annual winners recently at a reception at the new Carter Payne Event Center.
It was also a time to talk about the programs including:
Community-Based Mentoring, where Bigs and Littles, most from single family homes are matched.
REACH Mentoring, an extension of the Community-Based Mentoring which supports children of incarcerated parents.
Operation Mentor is directed toward the children of deployed military parents from Fort Carson.School-Based Mentoring volunteers are matched one-to-one with a child and meet within a group setting once a week during the school year. Children in the 5th grade at Stratton Meadows Elementary School in Harrison District 2 were the focus.
Emcee Joe Cole and Big Brothers Big Sisters Board Chair Peter Maiurro of El Pomar Foundation presented awards to:
Christopher and Peggy Ryan, individual donors of the year.Booz Allen Hamilton, company of the year.Chris Leach, Big of the year.
The nonprofit’s Advisory Board includes: Mark Bittle, Beth Bourgeois, David Gardner, George Harris, William White, Delilah King, Tony LeVeque, Curtis Olson, Tom Saponas and Barry Straub.
