Dreaming of a white Thanksgiving?

You might just have one this year, with a cold snap coming to town just in time for Turkey Day. The higher-than-average temperatures at the beginning of this week are expected to give way to lower-than-average temperatures on Thursday as a cold front moves into the Pikes Peak region.

The high on Thursday is predicted to be 28 degrees with temperatures dropping to a high of 23 degrees on Black Friday.

“It’s not exceptionally cold, but it will be chilly,” said Paul Wolyn, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Pueblo. “The cold front will come through on Wednesday, so it will be much colder on Thursday and Friday and a modest warming trend through the weekend on Sunday.” He said Colorado Springs may see light snow on Thanksgiving night and then another small snowfall on Friday night into Saturday morning.

This time of year typically sees maximum temperatures in the 40s, so the beginning of the week, with temperatures in the 50s and 60s, will be warm for the season, while the end-of-the week temperatures in the 20s will be colder than normal. Wolyn said that kind of cold snap isn’t unusual.

“That’s pretty common,” he said of the sudden predicted drop in temperature. “Strong cold fronts like this are typical this time of year.”
