Child struck by vehicle in northwest Colorado Springs: Police

A child on their way to school Friday morning was struck by a driver in the Rockrimmon neighborhood of Colorado Springs, police said in an online blotter entry.

The auto-pedestrian crash happened shortly after 8 a.m. at the intersection of Vindicator Drive and West Rockrimmon Boulevard.

Colorado Springs police responded to the 911 call that came in about five minutes after the crash. Officers said they spoke with the driver, who told them that sun glare had made it difficult to see.

Police said the child was on their way to a nearby school. Both Rockrimmon Christian Pre School and Eagleview Middle School are within a few blocks of the intersection.

The child was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The driver was cited and released. Investigators said drugs nor alcohol were believed to be a factor.
