Suspect wanted for alleged hit-and-run of police vehicle
An individual is wanted for allegedly ramming their vehicle into a police car in a hit-and-run in northeast Colorado Springs this morning.
Colorado Springs Police Department’s Falcon Division responded to a welfare check for two people who were unconscious in a vehicle at the 5300 block of North Academy Boulevard at 9:47 a.m. Drugs were seen in plain view within the vehicle.
The occupants in the vehicle woke up as officers were attempting to establish a “non-contact block” that would prevent the impaired driver from leaving. They did not comply with commands, and the driver drove off, ramming their vehicle into a police car as they did, police reported.
Prior to the vehicle fleeing, the officers had deployed a “Piranha” tire deflation device, which deflated one of the vehicle’s tires as the two drove off.
The suspect recklessly drove into a residential area west of Montebello Drive and Academy Boulevard and managed to elude the officers.
The driver was identified and will be arrested once the warrant is completed, police said. No one was injured during the chase.
Only the driver is being charged at this time.
