Colorado Springs Airport parking lots reach capacity amid Thanksgiving travel
Holiday travel picked up Wednesday in the Pikes Peak region, causing the long-term parking lots at Colorado Springs Airport to hit capacity.
The airport posted to its Facebook page Wednesday morning, giving a heads up to travelers to follow signage for overflow parking. Short-term lots were open as of 9:20 a.m., but only a limited number of spots were available.
Travelers were offered 50% off long-term parking for both the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday travel periods. Airport goers are able to utilize the discount until Dec. 1 and again Dec. 20 through Jan. 2.
For those parking slightly farther away from the airport’s entrance in overflow lots, a free shuttle service is available during designated flight times and offers shuttle stop-to-terminal service.
The Colorado Springs Airport does not predict airline numbers ahead of time but records show last year saw its November enplanement totals increase 20% over the previous year to a record-breaking 106,483 passengers. Prior to that, 2022 set a 22-year high in November for the airport.
According to prior Gazette reporting, the Tuesday and Sunday around the holiday are historically the busiest travel days.
Real-time flight information can be found on the airport’s website (flycos.com), but travelers are also encouraged to download the app for the airline they purchased their tickets through for up-to-date information regarding any delays or cancellations.
