18-year-old ID’d in fatal Friday motorcycle crash on Bijou Street

The motorcyclist killed in a crash on East Bijou Street Friday has been identified by officials as an 18-year-old Colorado Springs resident.

The motorcyclist, who witnesses reported was driving above the speed limit, collided with a sedan in the 2400 block of East Bijou Street. The car was reportedly heading southbound, exiting Platte Place, Colorado Springs police said.

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office identified the motorcyclist as Albert Castanon, who died on scene. The driver of the car was also transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injures.

Castanon was a middle child and the only son in his family, according to an obituary. His mother described him as her “sweet baby boy”.

“Though he didn’t smile often, when he did, it lit up the room,” the obituary said.
