The Denver Gazette sports staff predicts Sunday’s AFC wild-card game between the Broncos and Bills:

Paul Klee’s pick: Bills 36, Broncos 16

Denver’s playoff history on the road will sober up even the most diehard Bo-lievers. Bo Nix wasn’t alive yet the last time the Broncos won a road playoff game — the 1997 AFC championship game at Pittsburgh, 28 years ago. And Denver’s road results since then were ugly: blowout losses at Baltimore (21-3), at Indy (41-10 and 49-24) and at New England (45-10).

Klee’s record: 12-5 overall

Chris Schmaedeke’s pick: Bills 30, Broncos 17

The first playoff game of the Bo Nix era is close for a half but then Josh Allen and the Bills take over and dominate the second half. Denver’s defense will get stops early but won’t have enough to slow down the possible NFL MVP.

Schmaedeke’s record: 12-5 overall

Chris Tomasson’s pick: Bills 30, Broncos 23

Welcome to the lovefest that is Buffalo edge rusher Von Miller taking on his old team. Miller might be kind enough not to get any sacks, but there will be no love from Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who was passed over by Denver in the 2018 draft after playing at Wyoming. He’ll beat the Broncos with his arm and his legs.

Tomasson’s record: 13-4 overall

Mark Kiszla’s pick: Bills 27, Broncos 24

As the only one of us knuckleheads who was crazy enough to predict before the NFL season that the Broncos would be playing on wild card weekend, I am tempted to go Mr. Sunshine on you Negative Nancys and predict the biggest playoff upset since Tim Tebow was the hero in our dusty old cowtown. But I can’t do it, because unless Denver is at least plus-two in turnover margin, our local heroes won’t be on to Kansas City.

Kiszla’s record: 10-7 overall

Kyle Fredrickson’s pick: Bills 24, Broncos 23

There’s no shame in a postseason loss to the likely MVP in a season with zero playoff expectations. The Broncos are simply outmatched in talent by a Bills team knocking on the door of a championship. The offseason in Denver will feel different in 2025 with a team that fans can actually believe in. But this young group requires more time to grow.
