Kimberly Gold, CEO of the Colorado Springs Black Chamber, is leading a competitive three-person race to represent District 4 on the Colorado Springs City Council, based on uncertified results.

In the initial election results Colorado Springs, Gold led the district race with 38.95% of the roughly 5,785 votes that had been cast.

Gold is followed by mother and former school board candidate Sherrea Elliott-Sterling with 30% of the initial vote count and former legislative intern Chauncy Johnson with 26.2% of the votes.

Jeannie Orozco Lira, who was listed on the ballot but ended her campaign in early February, received 4.8% of the votes.

The winner of Tuesday’s election will take over the seat representing the neighborhoods in southeast Colorado Springs around Colorado Springs Municipal Airport and Peterson Space Force Base. Councilwoman Yolanda Avila has represented the district for the last eight years but was term-limited this year.
