Colorado Springs finishes improvements along Sinton Trail

The full length of Sinton Trail has reopened after Colorado Springs finished making improvements in recent weeks.

The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department closed the stretch of trail through Douglas Creek Open Space east of Holland Park Boulevard over the summer to do the work. All improvements were paid for using Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority funds.

The Parks Department replaced the asphalt trail with concrete to improve its long-term durability. Crews also made drainage improvements along the sides of the trail and removed an unused overhead waterline from one section.

“The Sinton Trail is an important recreational and transportation connection for this part of the city, and these improvements were designed with long-term durability and accessibility in mind,” city Trails Development Coordinator Emily Duncan said.

Most portions of the trail had reopened to the public in November, but the city announced the project on Tuesday to alert visitors during the holiday break.

The full Sinton Trail is a 3-mile path that connects Sinton Pond to the longer Pikes Peak Greenway Trail.
