Vehicle hits train near Trainwreck sports bar: Police
By O’Dell Isaac
A motorist was uninjured, but cited by police, after his vehicle was hit by a train on Sunday, according to law enforcement officials.
The collision took place about 10 p.m., south of the designated east-west railroad crossing South Conejos and Las Animas streets, police said. Crew members on a southbound BNSF train saw the vehicle on the tracks and began to slow down, but not enough to avoid hitting the car.
The train was stopped and the railroad crossing adjacent to the Trainwreck sports bar and restaurant was closed for “several hours” while a BNSF inspection team ensured the safety of the train, tracks and surrounded areas.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Brett Rupp, was released after he was cited.
