UPDATE: Shelter-in-place order near Fountain-Fort Carson lifted

UPDATE: The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office lifted the shelter-in-place order for the 800 block of Hayloft Lane at around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday. The order was issued for a gas leak and lasted several hours.

The Sheriff’s Office issued a shelter-in-place order for a gas leak near Fountain-Fort Carson High School on Monday, according to the Peak Alert.

The alert, which began at 6:59 p.m. Monday, asked residents to avoid the area and stated that it could be “several hours” before gas is shut off and the smell is gone.

The order is in effect for a half-mile radius from the 800 block of Hayloft Lane, and residents in the immediate area have been evacuated, according to a post on social media by the Fountain Fire Department. Black Hills Energy is on the scene repairing a gas main leak off the road.

The office is advising residents close doors and windows, turn off heating and cooling systems and avoiding the use of open flames.
