TCA flag football headed back to semis after dominant weekend
And then there was one … again.
The Classical Academy is the last flag football team standing and its high-octane offense toppled two opponents en route to the Titans’ second consecutive 4A flag football semifinals with a pair of wins Saturday.
The Titans, the No. 1 seed, won their second round game 34-0 over No. 17 Dakota Ridge at North Area Athletic Complex and duplicated that finish in the quarterfinals with a 34-0 win against No. 9 Elizabeth.
TCA (14-3) has six shutouts this season and has not allowed a score in its past three games. The Titans also advanced to the semifinals for a second year in a row after they did so in 2024 and ultimately finished as runners-up.
The Classical Academy will face No. 4 Green Mountain on Wednesday at Jeffco Stadium at a time to be determined. The winner of Wednesday’s semifinals matchup will advance to Saturday’s title game at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood at 4 p.m.
Three other Pikes Peak region teams played games this weekend as Air Academy and Vista Ridge competed in 4A and Doherty served as the lone 5A school to advance to the second round.
The Kadets, the No. 7 seed, were the only team besides TCA to earn a victory at NAAC as Air Academy beat No. 10 Mullen 14-7 in the second round.
Air Academy faced defending state champions Mountain View, the No. 2 seed, in the quarterfinals and lost 33-6. For No. 12 Vista Ridge, a late touchdown by the Wolves nearly tied the game in the fourth quarter, but No. 5 Denver North earned a 14-12 win.
In 5A, No. 14 Doherty lost to No. 3 Legend 32-12 to end the Spartans’ season.
