Prolific car theft offender suspected of stealing motorcycle in Colorado Springs
A prolific car theft offender is suspected of stealing a motorcycle in Colorado Springs with his brother, police say.
Tomasz Kellams, 39, was taken into custody with his brother Deen Kellams, 40, just after 10 p.m. Thursday after police connected them to a stolen 2015 Yamaha motorcycle, the Colorado Springs Police Department reported in an online blotter entry.
The motorcycle was reported stolen Sept. 16 in the 1900 block of Sussex Lane and had been spotted a few days later, but detectives couldn’t identify as suspect at the time.
Another chance to find a suspect came Thursday night during a multi-agency operation that specializes in car theft crime. Officers spotted the motorcycle in the 2100 block of Lelaray Street, where they learned that the two brothers were in possession of it.
Tomasz Kellams is being held at the El Paso County jail on a $10,000 bond, jail records show. His brother is also jailed there on three separate bonds totaling up to $5,000.
Police said Tomasz Kellams has been convicted of car theft multiple times.
