Empty bowls can sometimes result in full tummies.

The Empty Bowls fundraiser was held Oct. 1 at Lewis-Palmer High School. The event is one the two major fundraisers held by Monument Hill Kiwanis to benefit Tri- Lakes Cares, which feeds area families of modest means.

“Tri-Lakes Cares (is a) community-based, volunteer supported, resource center whose purpose is to improve people’s lives through emergency aid, self-sufficiency and relief programs,” Kiwanis spokesperson Robert Harrigan said in an email.

Besides having a good cause, the fundraiser has a profound message.

“Empty Bowls is a community event meant to remind participants that their participation benefits people to whom ‘food insecurity’ is a reality,” Harrigan said.

Attendees received a hand-crafted bowl, tasted soups from local restaurants and enjoyed live music from school groups, while also participating in a silent auction benefiting Tri-Lakes Cares.

In addition to Kiwanis and Tri-Lakes Cares, Lewis Palmer School District 38, the Tri-Lakes Women’s Club, local restaurants and national grocery stores contributed to this annual event.
