Mural jazzes up the Woodland Park Senior Citizens Club

A mural of fields and flowers, with a trail running through it, invites reflection and celebration. Titled “Journey, the artistry on the exterior wall of the Woodland Park Senior Citizens Club, highlights the role of nature in a contemplative life.

“We’re all on our journey,” said Aline Goodchild, who designed and painted the mural. “And seniors are on a journey trying to figure it out.”

For fun and memory, Goodchild painted a little red truck tucked away among the flowers, a tribute to her grandparents.

“They leased the property, and, over the years, whoever gardened or farmed the land, they always kept this old and rusty red truck,” she said.

Alongside the truck is a buck.

“Wherever you walk in Woodland Park, you run into a deer; there’s one in my backyard right now,” she said.

For a note of whimsy, Goodchild invited children playing in Memorial Park to come over and paint

“Each one got to pick a color and paint a flower,” Goodchild said. “They were so excited.”

The club president Jerry Burnham and club member Beth Weikel, with assistance from Tanna Hackney and Karen Anderson, spearheaded the project.
