Three years ago, Jeff Bzdelik left his job as coach of the Air Force men’s basketball team to take the same position at Colorado.

Bzdelik this week left Colorado for Wake Forest, which formally introduced him as its coach Wednesday, but the move could have a ripple effect on the Falcons — at least their schedule.

For the past two seasons, Jeff Reynolds — Bzdelik’s successor at Air Force — has refused to schedule the Buffaloes. Reynolds, who served as an assistant under Bzdelik at the academy, said Bzdelik is his best friend and he doesn’t want to play his best friend.

“As in the past, we will have dialogue with Colorado as well as others in regards to scheduling,” Reynolds said in an e-mail. “Scheduling is all about a fit with all parties involved.”

Reynolds could be considered a candidate to assist Bzdelik at Wake Forest. Bzdelik kept two of the Demon Deacons’ assistants, leaving him one vacancy. According to multiple news outlets, Bzdelik offered that spot to Buffaloes assistant Steve McClain, who declined because he has designs on Colorado’s coaching job.

Asked if he would consider taking the assistant job or if he was committed to Air Force, Reynolds responded, “It’s business as usual.”

Assistant leaves Air Force

Kevin Carroll, who served as an assistant for Reynolds the past three seasons, has accepted the head coaching position at Maryville University-St. Louis, a Division II school.
