Van, motorcyle collide on Pikes Peak Highway; road reopened

A crash between a van and three-wheeled motorcycle Monday closed Pikes Peak Highway in both directions near Brown Bush, about 9.5 miles from the guard shack at the foot of the 19-mile stretch.

The crash happened about 1:30 p.m., and was initially reported as an injury crash, but everyone involved was unharmed, said Colorado Springs police spokeswoman Lt. Catherine Buckley.

The motorcycle rolled onto its side at a hair-pin turn as it traveled down the peak and struck a van ascending on the highway, Buckley said. Two people riding the motorcycle were taken to a local hospital for precautionary measures.

The motorcycle driver will be ticketed in relation to the crash, Buckley said.

Sandy Elliott with Pikes Peak Rangers said the highway was reopened in both directions about 2 p.m.
