A 16-year-old boy wanted on suspicion of identity theft eluded police Monday by using bed sheets to climb down from a fourth-floor room at the Antlers Hilton in downtown Colorado Springs, police said.

Investigators tracked the teenager, who had been reported as a runaway from another state, to a room at the Antlers that he had paid for with a credit card allegedly stolen from a relative.

When the boy did not open the door about 1 a.m., police waited while investigators obtained a search warrant to enter the room and discovered the teen had used several bedsheets to escape.

The boy reportedly had fled Colorado Springs on a Greyhound bus with an acquaintance, police said.
