Colorado Springs police arrested a 30-year-old man Thursday in the killing of his estranged girlfriend this spring, according to a spokesman and jail records.

Daveon Artez Rogers was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder in the killing of 28-year-old Elizabeth Kremer and booked into the El Paso County jail, where he is being held without bail, online records show.

In a news release sent Friday, police said authorities were notified March 11 that Kremer was missing and last known to be headed to Roger’s house three days earlier. On March 22, a body was found in the 2300 block of Gold Camp Road that was later identified as Kremer.

Kremer died by asphyxia, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office determined.

Through about 40 search warrants to sift through cell phone records, texts and social media, police identified Rogers as a suspect, the statement said. Court papers in the case were sealed.

Police did not alert the public about the person’s death because detectives did not feel that the public was in danger and they believed that releasing information would impact their ability to gain information needed for arrest warrants, said Lt. Jim Sokolik, a spokesman for the department.

Rogers’ arrest affidavit was sealed, per a judge’s orders, a court clerk said Friday.

Records show that in 2017 Rogers pleaded guilty to theft between $2,000 and $5,000 and in 2016, he pleaded guilty to theft between $5,000 and $20,000.

Kremer’s death was the 13th homicide this year in Colorado Springs. Since her death, eight other people have been killed, bringing the city’s homicides to a total of 21. At the same time last year, there were seven.
