SUNRISE: Police arrest suspect in string of robberies
Maybe it was a disappointing till or perhaps the thrill, but whatever motivated Clifford Jones-Johnson to allegedly commit a string of three robberies just minutes apart at neighboring businesses proved to be a mistake.
The 21-year-old man was arrested Thursday night on suspicion of robbing two Subways and a Papa John’s Pizza in northwest Colorado Springs, according to the Colorado Springs police blotter.
Police responded to a report of an armed robbery about 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Subway at 6880 Centennial Blvd. While investigating that robbery, police received a call about another robbery, at a Subway at 6660 Delmonico Blvd., about two miles away. Moments later, a third call came of a robbery at a Papa John’s in the same shopping center.
Several officers responded to the second round of robberies, including some who were investigating the first one. They found a car nearby with evidence, according to the blotter. The car led police to a number of people, and eventually Jones-Johnson, who was arrested in the 200 block of Shadow Ridge Grove, near Nevada Avenue and Garden of the Gods Road.
MOUNTAIN LIONS KILL PET
A pair of mountain lions killed a small dog in Green Mountain Falls on Thursday, according to the Green Mountain Falls Marshal’s Office.
The 15-pound dog was in a fenced yard when the lions attacked about 5:30 p.m. in the 10800 block of Ora Street. A deputy marshal responded, but the lions had left by the time he arrived.
There have been several lion and bobcat sightings in the Ute Pass area, the marshal’s office reported, but this was the first pet attack in Green Mountain Falls. The Department of Wildlife is investigating.

International Red Cross (ICRC) staff loaded emergency supplies bound for Haiti into a Ilyushin 76 aircraft at Cointrin airport, in Geneva, Switzerland, on Thursday. Troops and planeloads of food and medicine trickled into Haiti on Thursday to aid the traumatized nation still rattled by aftershocks from a catastrophic earthquake. The 40-ton cargo includes specialized kits to help treat the wounded and a kit sufficient to cover the basic health needs of 10,000 people over a period of three months. Furthermore, the plane will carry 3,000 body bags and materials such as one ton of chlorine that can be used for water treatment. It is due to arrive in or near Port-au-Prince today.
