A man sought by police on a felony warrant was arrested Tuesday night after officers found a stolen watch and other items they believe were stolen in his car.

Residents in the Castilian Villas neighborhood near Austin Bluffs Parkway on Monday reported a suspicious vehicle parked in a cul-de-sac where houses have not been built. The owner of the car, Steven Hovind, 47, was wearing a headlamp and disappearing into bushes, police said.

Hovind was gone when officers arrived, but a records search revealed the warrant for his arrest.

Police arrested Hovind in his front yard in the 5500 block of Trout Creek Pass Drive at about 11 p.m. Tuesday. A watch that was reported stolen from a home near the Castilian Villas was in Hovind’s car, officers said.Officers found “enormous amounts” of jewelry and household items in Hovind’s trunk.

Analysts are looking at theft and burglary reports to see if they can match confiscated items to victims.
