The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office believes DNA evidence has solved a 2007 robbery of a west-side liquor store in which the robber escaped after shattering a bottle over an employee’s head.

Marvin LeClaire, 22, has been charged with aggravated robbery, second-degree assault and menacing in the June 12, 2007, theft at 3601 W. Colorado Ave. He was arrested while in the El Paso County jail on unrelated charges after his DNA matched the blood of the robber, who was cut while struggling with the store employee.

The employee, Do Kyoung Choi, chased after the thief after the robber approached the counter, then ran out of the store without paying for his booze, the Sheriff’s Office said. The thief struck Choi n the head with the liquor bottle he had stolen, then pulled a gun and threatened to shoot Choi if he followed him.

LeClaire, who also is wanted on additional warrants, is being held without bond.
