A man convicted in the July stabbing death of 32-year-old Juan Pablo Herrera was sentenced Monday to life without parole for first-degree murder.

The man, Jaime Armando Montez-Hernandez, also 32, was convicted in October, and was also convicted of attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury for stabbing another man in the face.

Montez-Hernandez was sentenced to 32 years for each of those charges.

Herrera and Augustine Barraza, 31, reportedly were stabbed when they tried to intervene in a fight between Montez-Hernandez and his girlfriend in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Mazatlan Circle.

According to an arrest affidavit, Montez-Hernandez went to the apartments because he wanted his girlfriend to come home from a party.
