Youth Documentary Academy films air on Rocky Mountain PBS

Local youth expression has made it to the small screen.

The Youth Documentary Academy and Rocky Mountain PBS recently formed a partnership to broadcast YDA films on the TV station and its affiliate stations in Colorado.

Cheyenne Mountain High School student Madison Legg’s 2015 film, “Under the Wire,” will air on the show “Insight” at 7 p.m. Thursday on PBS stations.

Her film tackles teen suicide in Colorado, an issue near to her heart after a suicide attempt by her brother. Legg will appear live in the studio following the broadcast to discuss her film with a mental health expert and the show’s host, John Ferrugia, a nationally recognized investigative journalist.

YDA was founded in 2013 to train people ages 14-18 how to direct and produce their own documentary films. About a dozen students in the Pikes Peak region are selected each summer to participate in the free, seven-week training at the Fine Arts Center.

Future broadcast dates of YDA films on PBS will be announced throughout 2017.
