22-year-old soldier drowns on Fort Carson reservoir
A soldier drowned on Fort Carson Sunday while attempting to retrieve a boat that had driffed away as it was launched into Townsend reservoir, Fort Carson said.
The soldier’s identity has not been released, Fort Carson said. He was 22 years old, according to the Colorado Springs Fire Department.
The soldier went under the water about 10:15 a.m. Sunday and was recovered about an hour later by rescuers from the post and the Colorado Springs Fire Department.
Rescuers performed CPR on the soldier, said Tommy Smith, fire department battalion chief. The soldier was later declared dead at Evans Army Community Hospital.
