Rockies’ Tulowitzki to be checked for sports hernia
DETROIT — Rockies all-star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will fly to Philadelphia on Monday to be evaluated by a specialist to determine if Tulowitzki has a sports hernia.
Tulowitzki will consult with Dr. Bill Meyers, a surgeon who operated on Texas Rangers star Josh Hamilton last November and successfully repaired Hamilton’s sports hernia.
Rockies trainer Keith Dugger said this afternoon that the club is not certain that Tulowitzki has a sports hernia, but said that after two MRIs, further examination is needed to understand what’s causing the pain and discomfort in Tulowitzki’s left groin area.
Tulowitzki suffered a setback in the first game of a rehab assignment with Triple-A Colorado Springs on Wednesday while running the bases in the third inning. He was placed on the disabled list on May 31.
