A 19-year-old woman told El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies she escaped an attempted kidnapping Sunday by jumping out of a vehicle after a man grabbed her off a street and tried to speed away.

The woman suffered minor injuries and ran to a home near Woodmen Hills Drive and Velvet Antler Way, west of Meridian Road to seek help, according to a statement from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say attempted kidnapping reportedly happened about 12:15 p.m., when the woman was riding her bicycle along Woodmen Hills Drive and a dark colored sport utility vehicle pulled up next to her. A man got out of the SUV, grabbed the victim, took her bicycle and forced her into the vehicle. As the man began to drive away, the woman jumped.

The man sped eastbound on Woodmen Hills Drive and was not located, according to the statement.
