Stolen vehicle investigation leads to arrest in Colorado Springs

One man was arrested and charges were pending for two others Tuesday after a pursuit in east Colorado Springs stemming from a stolen vehicle investigation, police said.

Nicholas Steiger, 25, was arrested on suspicion of motor vehicle theft, three felony drug arrest warrants and one additional motor vehicle theft warrant, records show.

Police set up containment areas in a residential neighborhood about 2:45 p.m. after two men fled from a vehicle that had been reported stolen at a parking lot near the intersection of Airport and South Chelton roads, police said.

K-9 units joined the search for the men and recovered a cell phone that may have belonged to one of them, police said.

Investigators tracked the men down to a nearby hotel about 4:15 p.m. and located a third suspect, identified as Steiger, at the lobby.

Steiger was taken into custody without incident but police did not say how he was connected to the stolen vehicle investigation.

The identities for the other two men were not released pending an open investigation and filing of possible charges, police said.
