A 15-year-old Palmer High School student darting through traffic Thursday afternoon was struck by a vehicle and taken to the hospital with unknown injuries, police said.

The student ran between two parked cars on Nevada Avenue just north of Platte Avenue and slammed into the passenger side of a Jeep Wrangler traveling north on Nevada, Colorado Springs police officer B.D. Macomber said.

“He was transported by a private vehicle to the hospital, and the extent of his injuries are not known yet,” he said.

Witnesses said the student did not appear to have life-threatening injuries.

Police said the teen-ager was at fault for the accident and cited for failing to use the crosswalk.

Police closed northbound Nevada while they investigated the accident, which happened just after 3 p.m.

Junior Alina Lugo said she heard a “very, very loud sound” and then saw the student rolling off the hood of the Jeep. The student got up by himself, she said.

“He looked kind of dazed, like he wasn’t sure like what happened,” she said.

The incident is the latest in a string of accidents involving pedestrians around the school.

D-11 spokeswoman Devra Ashby was in a meeting and did not immediately return a call for comment.
