Consider spring sprung.

Of course, in the Pikes Peak region, that doesn’t necessarily mean only rain and tulips. If history is an indication, snow will fall.

April typically marks the end of the dry season and more consistently mild temperatures, and forecasters at the National Weather Service in Pueblo say this April will likely bring even more precipitation than the average average 1.62 inches of rain and 6.3 inches of snow.

“Those two things combined? Sure, April showers, you’ll see some May showers,” said Randy Gray, NWS meteorologist in Pueblo.

Temperatures are expected to stay near the average high of 59.2 degrees and average low of 31.4 degrees, meaning we have some freezes ahead, Gray said.

The coldest April day on record was April 10, 1959 when it dipped to three below zero. On the flip side, the warmest it’s ever been in April was on April 30, 1992 when it reached 87 degrees. It snowed a record 18 inches April 5, 1900.
